I am currently reading chapter thirteen in The Likeness and it’s very intense! This novel has kept me at the edge of my seat the whole time; I never know what’s going to happen next.
By the Authors writing I think Cassie is very nervous not knowing what is going to happen and scared going into Lexis life and starting exactly where she left of. Can you imagine pretending to be someone that your not? It would be so hard, making sure you never get caught, saying the right things all the time, if Cassie says the wrong thing she is bound to get pulled from the case, and not figure out how Lexi actually died. I picture Cassie as a very hardworking, intelligent girl, so for her to get pulled off the case I thinks its going to be pretty much impossible.
I feel the author is very descriptive when describing Whitehorn House, where Lexi and her friends live. From page 116 Tana Frank describes the house having "a scuffed card table in inlaid rosewood, bookshelves jammed with tattered leather covers and bright paperbacks and a wood fire crackling in a massive wrought-iron fireplace, throwing wild shadows scudding among the cobwebs in the high corners." When I imagine the inside of the house it reminds me of the inside of my great grand parents old house the inside was had dark oak flooring, very simple, white walls, an old creaky stair case that’s rounded as it goes up, furniture that’s mismatched, very old and going to fall apart soon, horrible flowered wallpaper with a big chandelier in the middle of the living room. I see it having a dirt cellar that no one would ever want to go in, because you never know what you might come across… I picture the house being two stories high, with a white fence around the yard that hasn’t been painted in years, a big hawthorn tree in the middle of the yard, and an old creaky gate that sounds haunted when it’s windy.
I am finding it hard to imagine the other characters, Abby, Rafe, Daniel, and Justin. I do not remember the author describing them, and if she did describe them it was very brief and short. Cassie I imagine being average height, skinny, curious, doesn’t get scared at all and will do anything to figure out what she needs to know. Tana French described their personality a lot, but not really there appearance which makes it hard to get a mental picture. Abby, Rafe, Daniel, Justin and Lexi are very close; they’re friends that seem like they are family to each other. They do everything together, every night they read, play games, or simply just hang out.
The author Tana French makes me feel scared when Cassie goes to into a deserted cottage, curious- trying to figure out what is going to happen next, happy when Abby,Justin,Rafe,Daniel and Cassie are together because they are always having fun just being together and when I read it, it makes me feel happy. Finally it nervous while I read this novel since French never makes it clear who the killer is, I am always guessing, so her being around some of these people (Nate-who is Daniels cousin)makes me so nervous! He could kill her at any moment. There are so many things that are happening, and I can’t put this book down so far!

Yesterday February 8, 2010 we went to the library on a class field trip. When I was there I looked at many books, I wasn’t sure what kind of book I wanted. Mrs Kulyk gave me many books to read, they all sounded very interesting, but I just didn’t know if I felt like reading it right now. One of the librarians told me that the novel The Lovely Bones was an amazing read, but it wasn’t in her section so I went and talked to this other librarian. They didn’t have this novel, but she gave me this other one, The Likeness by Tana French. When I saw it, the size of it kind of intimidated me, but when she described it to me it sounded very interesting and like it would keep you on the edge of your seat at all times. So I got it, I observed the cover on the bus ride home; the cover looks creepy, dark, and sketchy. I think the cover represents the book a lot, I read up to page 33 and I was truly freaked out. This book always keeps me wondering what’s going to happen; I am so confused and freaked out all at the same time and I still want to continually reading!
Cassie Maddox is the main character working for the murder squad solving the mystery on how people are murdered. Her boyfriend Sam calls her on one divine spring morning, frantically asking her to come by the murder scene in the small town of Glenskehy. It isn’t until she sees the body and realizes why Sam sounded so terrified and scared; the girl looked identical to her.... Frank Mackey Cassie’s undercover boss then sees the opportunity of a lifetime; his brilliant idea is Cassie going undercover as this girl, solving the mystery on how she was murdered, and who did it. I think that Cassie is in for more than she can imagine, and I am so curious on how it’s going to play out.
