I finally finished “Nineteen Minutes” by Jodi Picoult! It was an amazing novel. It kept me absorbed throughout the entire novel. Picoult always had new ideas, thoughts and scenes that make me literally say “wow” out loud. For instance at the end of the novel there is a scene, and I should have saw it coming, but when I read it, I was completely shocked! I predicted that in the shooting at Sterling that Josie (one of the popular kids) had something to do with it, like she was drugged and then helped Peter kill someone people since they used to be friends when they were in elementary school. That did make sense because she had fainted before the investigators got there and claimed she didn’t remember anything about the shooting. The thing that didn’t make sense though was that everything was on camera. There was a camera in the gym and in the cafeteria; the only room that wasn’t on camera was the locker room where Josie was hiding when Mat (her boyfriend) was shot. So Josie couldn’t have possibly helped kill them. Then Picoult has a great scene at the end that connects everything together and seriously just about made me cry because it was so intense!!
I think the author wrote this novel to show that every thing whether it’s big or little can make a change in someone’s life. Those nineteen minutes when Peter shoot ten people, impacted the school, community and surrounding area and will impact them for the rest of their lives. Even Peter shooting them affects his life; he is stuck in jail until he dies. I think Peter knew that though when he shoot them, he just wanted to be someone, who nobody else was allowed to judge, even if it was just for nineteen minutes.
